The Klein Independent School District Board of Trustees met Monday, November 14, 2022, for a regular monthly meeting. This is a recap of the highlights of major actions and reports from the meeting.

Board Hears Report on ‘Superior’ Financial Integrity Rating
|
Chief Financial Officer Daniel Schaefer gave a report to the Board about the District’s recent FIRST “Superior” rating. For the 20th straight year, Klein ISD earned the top-level Superior Achievement rating from the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). FIRST awards have been awarded for the past 20 years. Klein ISD has always received a Superior Achievement rating, the highest ranking available from FIRST.

Klein ISD 2023 Legislative Priorities Approved
|
The Board approved legislative priorities for the 88th Texas Legislative Session after reviewing feedback provided by the Klein Leadership Coalition, a standing team of parents, employees, and community members who are committed to the success of every student in Klein ISD. Below is an overview of the A, B, C’s of the Klein ISD Legislative Priorities:

- Accountability | Measure What Matters | Klein ISD believes the accountability system should allow flexibility in valuing multiple measures of student achievement and success rather than relying heavily on high-stakes testing.
- Budget | Adjust for Inflation | Klein ISD supports legislation that establishes a simple, fair state finance system with community-based governance, including additional allocations for per-student allotments in Texas public schools.
- Care | Invest in Safety, Mental Health & Wellness, and Teacher Retention | Klein ISD cares deeply about the success, safety, and well-being of our students, teachers, and staff and advocates for legislation that provides additional resources to support top-notch care for our people.

Campus Goals and Performance Objectives Approved
|
The Board approved Campus Goals and Performance Objectives for 2022-2023. Klein ISD utilizes a collaborative planning process rooted in comprehensive, data-informed annual needs assessments in order to develop annual district and campus improvement goals/performance objectives.
The district improvement plan and campus improvement plans are aligned with the district’s board-approved strategic framework. Formative reviews occur at a minimum quarterly, and success is measured by progress on Board-adopted measures and indicators of student and system success.

2023-2024 School Calendar Approved
|
After reviewing feedback from families, staff members, and students, the Board approved Option 2 of the 2023-2024 School Calendar.

- 2022 Bond Project - Approved the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the Doerre and Kleb Intermediate School Renovation Projects
- 2022 Bond Project - Approved the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the Klein Oak High School Renovation Project
- 2022 Bond Project - Approved the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) for the Klein Cain High School Classroom Addition Project
- 2022 Bond Project - Approved the Contractor for the Life Safety Renovations
- 2022 Bond Project - Approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) Award of Package 2 for the Klein Collins High School Secure Vestibule and Dance and Gym Addition
- 2022 Bond Project - Approved the Contract for Technology Consulting and Project Management Services for 2022 Bond Technology Projects

The Klein ISD Police Department and Klein ISD Health Services honored nurse Sarah Benson, BSN, RN and Klein ISD Police Department Officer Cindy Walters for their heroic life-saving efforts of ane on October 6, 2022, at the Klein ISD Therapeutic and Readiness Center.
|
|
|
The Board honored the Kailee Mills Foundation Kailee Mills Foundation with the Stand Up for Texas Public Schools recognition for their dedication to spreading awareness about seatbelt safety after tragically losing their daughter in a car accident.
|
|
|
Dr. Rodney Watson, Executive Director of the Region IV Education Service Center, presented our Superintendent, Dr. Jenny McGown, with her Region IV Superintendent of the Year award. Dr. McGown’s recognition as Superintendent of the Year for Region IV is among numerous leadership accolades she has received as Klein ISD Superintendent, including being named a State Finalist for Texas Superintendent of the Year.
