February 6 Klein ISD Board Notes

The Klein Independent School District Board of Trustees met Monday, February 6, for its regular monthly meeting. This is a recap of the highlights of major actions and reports from the meeting.

Klein ISD Associate Superintendent of Human Resource Services Named

Bob Anderson (center), former Klein ISD Elementary and Secondary Principal of the Year and current Executive Director of Human Resources, has been named the Associate Superintendent of Human Resource Services. Bob is replacing Gwyn Touchet (not pictured), who served in an interim capacity and is retiring. Bob's wife, Sandy (left), and Superintendent Dr. Jenny McGown (right) joined Bob in this photo.

Trustees Heard Two Reports

  • Trustee Chris Todd presented a report on behalf of the audit committee regarding the process for selecting an external auditor to conduct the audit for the 2022-2023 fiscal year and an update from internal audit. Klein ISD is legally required to engage an external auditor, but the Board of Trustees chooses to exceed that requirement and employ an internal auditor to carefully review the finances and use of district resources.
  • Board attorney Ellen Spalding presented a legal report regarding the dismissal of meritless complaints filed with the Texas Ethics Commission (TEC) regarding the 2022 Bond. This TEC decision is final and cannot be appealed.

Recognitions of Results

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) has once again awarded Klein ISD the Meritorious Budget Award for excellence in the preparation and issuance of the 2022-2023 school district annual budget. This is the 18th consecutive year the Klein ISD Finance Team has received this award.

The Texas Music Educators Association has selected 19 Klein ISD student musicians as Texas All-State Musicians. Students were chosen for this prestigious honor through an extremely competitive process held across the state at the District, Region, and Area levels. Across Texas, 1,846 students are selected through a process that began with over 75,000 students from around the state vying for this honor to perform in one of 18 All-State ensembles.

Klein ISD was recognized as a “Premier Community for Theater Education” by Texas Thespians, an educational honor society and the largest Education Theater Association chapter in the nation. Klein ISD is one of only 9 school districts in the state to be recognized for this distinction.

Trustee Georgan Reitmeier (second from left) honored retired Navy Commander Matt Lipetska (second from right) as the distinguished alumnus for the month of February. He is a proud product of Klein, having attended Greenwood Forest Elementary, Wunderlich Intermediate, and ultimately graduating from Klein Forest High School. He went on to serve for 20 years of active duty for our country as he built a successful career in the US Navy, serving numerous leadership roles, including flying missions supporting Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom. Currently, Commander Lipetska works with NASA at the Johnson Space Center Houston, where he flies three NASA aircraft and was honored with the prestigious Stewart Present Flight Achievement Award and NASA’s top pilot for 2022 award.
